Out of Words

My friend suggested me to watch this mini webseries called “Sore” (which means afternoon, when the sky about to dusk). It was actually an advertisement for a diabetic sugar product but the storyline is quite unique. It was about a future wife who travelled to the past to find her younger-self husband in order to correct his unhealthy habit. My friend was so fond of the series that she developed an admiration for the director, Yandy Laurens (And I also have to admit that I like his style, too), so that she searched for anything about his work, past as well as future. Then, she found out that he directed a music video for one of our country’s celebrated singer – song writer, Kunto Aji, which was launched in late April. I watched the video and listened to the song for the first time and I was in love with it!

The title itself, ‘Mercusuar’ means ‘Lighthouse’ in Indonesian. This song reminded me of the short poem that I wrote in mid. 2016. And it captures the exact feel:

To you
I feel like coming home
If that’s not love
I don’t know what is

I was so happy finding out about this song. The fact that it was lyrical (unlike most of current popular song) adds to my appreciation. Instrumentally, the song is very relaxing and somewhat dreamy, the vocal was done by one the best vocalist in the country, and most importantly, the lyrics is utterly satisfying (I love songs with good lyrics). All and all, it became my new favorite that I play it over and over and over again.

I could not match the lyrical feel in the English translation to the original Indonesian. But no worries, nothing is lost in translation. You might not get the feel, but at least you’d understand what he’s saying.
